Usman Khawaja to Level Up to Donald Bradman’s 500 Runs Record, the Second Oldest Australian to Do So in an Ashes Series

The recent performance by Usman Khawaja has been nothing less than exceptional. The Australian has set remarkable career accomplishments in the Test career. And as he is getting older, he has done wonders such as in 22 Tests piling up 2,114 runs. This also has 7 centuries included and a strike rate of 62.17, which can give even young cricketers jitters. And all this since he turned 35 years of age.

The veteran opener is getting closer to attaining the status of the oldest Australian to score 500 runs since Sir Donald Bradman in an Ashes series. Usman is also one of the leading run-winner for the Ashes 2023. And to reach the feat that we are referring to, he needs to add 7 more runs to his kitty. Also, Khawaja just needs another 16 runs to cross the record of Donald’s 508 runs.

It was in 1948 that Donald reached the tally of 508 runs that too at the age of 39. At such an age, recording an achievement is indeed appreciated. Talking about Khawaja, if he scores 76 in the current innings, then he will come on part with Steve Smith (twice) as the only second Australian to make 500 runs this century in an Ashes series held away from home.

On Day 4, Australia had lost no wickets and stood at 135 runs as the rain hindered the game. As a target for day 5, the team will require a chase down of only 249 runs. Michael Di Venuto, the coach of Australia's batting said that he does not think the situation will deteriorate further tomorrow. There could be some turn. However, things look to be otherwise great for batting.
